
Jim Larkin Memorial Scholarship Recipients announced
Nathan Fortuna (right): He will be attending South Dakota State University in the fall. His major is Nursing. Nathan feels that helping people to the best of his abilities is what he loves most and with a nursing degree he will be able to help more people. He thanks his mother for raising him and teaching him to be empathetic, which is a key trait when working in the medical field.
Mya Determan (left): She will be attending the University of South Dakota in the fall. Her major is in Business Administration with a minor in Marketing. Her future plan is to own her own business and has already started to scratch the surface of what it will be like by starting up a local cookie business.
Jim Larkin was a former Gregory High School Math and Chemistry Teacher. In 1973 he started teaching at Gregory High school and spent his entire 43 year career there. He was dedicated and passionate about teaching and helping offers. He impacted numerous people wit this teaching and his strong religious faith.
The Family of Jim Larkin started this scholarship program in memory of Jim with hopes that his memorial money will help students attend post-secondary schooling. The family made this a self-sustaining fund that will continue to grow and, in the future allow them to offer larger scholarships to the recipients. Each student received a $500.00 scholarship. The First Fidelity Bank Gregory Community Foundation is assisting the family with this program.
